    Default Starting out

    Hello.

I recently ran out of my standard cartridge blades and after some research decided to take the plunge into using a straight razor. Everyone I know that I've mentioned that too thinks I'm crazy and it's a bad idea, but I'm betting it probably won't turn out too horridly.

Now I've read a lot about how newly bought razors aren't really ready to shave with when you get them. After looking around a bit I decided to get a set from Vintage Blades LLC: http://www.vintagebladesllc.com/vsho...cat=142&page=1

I choose the pre-honed option as well. Is this enough or is there anything else I'll need to do to make this blade ready to shave with? Also, is there anything not included in that kit that I might need to start this venture?

    Thanks for any help.

Welcome aboard! That setup should do you just fine starting out. If you have ANY questions about it contact Jim at Vintage right away - he's a great guy and will take care of you. The Dovo's are nice shavers and you'll be happy with it. Lynn (from SRP) does Jim's honing so rest assured that she'll come sharp. Just be careful when stropping - you don't want to dull the edge before you get a chance to use it. There are plenty of people and threads to educate you on anything you might need to know - just don't hesitate to ask!

Just be sure to strop just before each shave, not the nite before, for 50 roundtrip laps.
