Thanked: 1First Shave and a Question?
Well, I got a shave ready razor in a round about way from altima55 through a gracious member here (tatsuo sp?) He had won it on ebay, and saw a post from me that indicated I was bidding also. He contacted me via pm and graciously offered the razor to be sent directly to me from altima55.
There is a great bunch of people here, and tatsuo is a very generous person for doing this!
On to the shave! I got all of the tools together (strop came in), and I had everything else as I am a long time DE user.
Today was the day to start. I stropped about 20 times and lathered up, and started shaving. Very close shave with a great blade! Had a little trouble trying to figure out the hand positions to do all the strokes. It was a little clumsy, but I will get there eventually.
Four passes, and BBS everywhere but around my adams apple. That is pretty much par for my DE shaves.
The question is, how do most people clean the blade between strokes? I tried a couple of different techniques, and receive the only nick from my first str8 shave on the index finger of my non-dominant hand when I tried to wipe the lather from the blade between passes!
At least I can say NO Syptic (but a bandaid on my finger)!
So how does everyone else remove the lather from the blade between strokes?
Thanks again to everyone on the board!

Four passes
on your first shave
! Did you get any razor burn ? I have 2 razors from altima55 , and they are both great shavers . He is the "real deal" on ebay . His razors are everything he says they are . You may want to strop more . I do 25 round trip laps on the linen , and 40 on the leather before each shave .
Greetings , from Dundalk , Maryland . The place where normal people , fear to go .

I use the towel that I originally put on my
face to steam it. I just wipe the lather
on that. I really just dab the lather off rather
than wipe the blade. I would never use
my bare finger to wipe the lather off the blade
for the reason you mentioned.

Is there any problem with just running the blade under running water? (forgive me if this is blasphemy, but seems like it would work?)

Good to know... that just seemed the natural solution to me...
Case made razors? Gotta find me one! Case is pretty much the gold standard for me as far as knives are concerned (CV blades all the way!).

Thanks for the moral support Old !.........In answer to your second question, the answer is "No".
After watching the dvd, I thought I could do it, so I tried......(and tried & tried).
Now the old Case.....I figured that thing needed a fair amount of work, as I notice a good amount of flattening on the spine (being an OLD razor, it's only doing what's expected of it)......
Now the new T-I......Well, the propaganda sheet that came with the razor promised that it was "ready to shave with".
I didn't believe it, so I did a little honing on that too !
I'm kind of stumped right now.......do I keep trying to get these things sharp myself (thus enjoying the "pride" of doing it myself), or do I swallow my pride, and send them to Lynn ?
After all, he said in the dvd, that part of the joy is shaving with a razor that YOU YOURSELF honed.
WHO KNOWS ?......maybe it IS sharp, and I'm just expecting too much ?
Marko......
