Thanked: 4I have been shaving with a straight for about two weeks. And still no nicks, Ok one small cut when my three year old started screaming in the middle of my shave. I do not think either of us is doing it wrong. In My case I am simply not chasing the BBS yet. I figure my shave is getting a little closer every time sooner or later I will get there. Until then I can live with 5 oclock shadow early.

Not everybody needs a bbs shave. I have been straight shaving for 10 months now and I still have not achieved a bbs shave in every place. Once in a while I BBS my cheeks and a couple parts of my neck. I stopped chasing it. The hair on my face grows in collicky patches which means different directions of growth to shave all over. So it just ain't happening for me. I can live with that though. The shaves are still better than I ever would have thought and they last me through the day, sometimes longer. So I stopped chasing the BBS a long time ago. I suspect that if I really dedicated hours of shaving education to myself I may get one but for now I just think what I do is good enough.

I've been shaving with a str8 for about two
weeks now. Yesterday was the first time
I didn't get any NEW cuts. I freshened up an
old one, but no new ones.

Well gentlemen, Seems I spoke too soon. I found out two thing tonight while shaving.
1. Rage against the Machine is not shaving music.
2. Razor cuts hurt like ****!
So do I get to join the bleeders club?

I had relatively few cuts over the last month plus until this morning. Got distracted as my kids were going to school and opened a one inch cut right across my carotid artery! Looks really nasty right about now since it has scabbed up.
If anyone at my office was thinking about coming over to a straight razor, I'm pretty sure they think differently now. General consensus is that I will slit my throat one of these days.
My favorite conversation on it tonight came at my kids' science fair. I was talking to a buddy of mine who looking at the gash asked "cut yourself shaving?". I said "Yep" He said "Wow. Big cut". I said "Big blade! You gotta use a real razor to do this kind of damage." To which he replied, "never used a straight razor, don't have the nerve."
This I think goes to a big part of why I enjoy this. It's the focus and danger when you don't focus. I think I'll rename this "Extreme Shaving" Maybe I better not as prices for nice razors will get even higher.

If you haven't cut yourself yet you aren't really trying...
Sometimes it happens, and after 9 months of straight razor shaving I have my share of cuts. Usually I cut myself by going to fast or losing concentration. Either way sucks big time. Luckily they heal, and hey! Chicks dig scars...

If I remember correctly, someone acidentally hit me a black eye on the 'dance' floor.
