Too true, I am left handed as well and had absolutely no problems working with both.

Thanked: 2Yeah, I need to second (third?) that observation. I usually do best with whatever hand I learned to do something with - so I made sure to start shaving with a straight with both hands.
Anyway, Congratulations! Welcome (I posted my "My First Shave" post on Friday, so it's not like I'm an old-timer), and be sure to share your failures as well as your triumphs so's we all can learn!

To reply to the gent about the aftershave products:
All I have right now is witch hazel (lavender scent) by Thayer's. It's alright...refreshing, but if you use too much, the lavender is overpowering a bit. I used too much last night.
And I'm still not overly comfortable with the angles on my right side. When I learn them better, I'll be able to better transition them to my left-hand when the time comes.

Good job Kasp,
I'm only about 9 ahead of you. Some days are
better than others, so don't get discouraged
when you do draw blood. I'm still working on
getting a comfortable angle on some areas,
especially my neck. I really hacked myself up
good the other day. You really look like hell
a few hours after the massacre, but by the
next day it's healed up considerably. Good luck.

Yeh, that's most of the reason I'm doing all of this in the evening. I had shave #2 last night and I had one spot of "ooze" that didn't even bleed a full drop before it stopped. You couldn't even see where it was by the time I did my cold-water rinse.
I really am enjoying this though! I'm having some issues with my lather, but as I've only done this twice, I really don't want to place blame on the shave cream quite yet. That and I absolutely LOVE the scent.

I'd been shaving with a DE with the brush
and soaps for a couple of years before starting
this so the lather wasn't a problem. What
cream are you using?

TGQ's Oak Moss. Both times I've had to add a lot more cream than I thought I would. Of course, I'm working off a sample, and I am VERY new to this, so I really have no basis of knowing how much to use outside of the tutorials and how-to's around the internet and whatnot.
When it lathers up, it comes out really nice, but it takes me a few tries and what I feel is a lot of cream before I get there.

Nicely done, and here's to many more successful straight razor shaves.

Congratulations! I'm waaay behind you; haven't even got my equipment together. Always good to hear that that first time is, indeed, possible without major blood loss.

Congrats it only gets better from here. More importantly you had no blood. But always be careful. IMO you are more likely to cut your fingers than your face when using a str8. Be aware of the blade at all times.
As for the left hand, I am quite clumsy with it and so I have never bothered to use it. I do just fine with my right hand.
