Thread: How often do you shave?

So far, I'm waiting about 1-2 days in between. I haven't formalized a preshave routine yet (which seems important, thanks Kenrup for some ideas!), and I also like to watch the hairs getting sliced from my skin.

I will recommend ALWAYS showering before a shave. Remember to give your face a good wash so you soften up your skin and whiskers.
I like what one gent said....women will spend a full hour in front of the mirror getting their make-up right. Why can't we spend 40 minutes (that's how long I take still) to get our shave right?

Thanked: 1I try to shave daily, but sometimes my scheduling gets thrown off; not particularly important since I'm just a student anyhow.
I run 3-4 passes depending on whether or not I'm using a straight or a DE.

Although I am still new with straights, I understand the concept and by that I mean that if you are using proper technique (blade angle, no pressure, proper blade maintenance), there should be zero irritation. A few days ago I had my third straight shave and had the least irritation I had from a shave. The key is to try and make progress.....every shave use less pressure and try to improve the technique.
I find that my current situation requires me to shave no more than twice per week but I like the look of a clean shaved face and I also get alot of gratification from shaving so I find it hard to go more than two days.

Every one to three days. 1 1/2 passes? First pass WTG; except for the sides of the neck (the hair grows chin to ear there), which is always XTG. I immediately repeat a stroke with a bit of water during the first pass if it didn't feel close enough.
When I want to really enjoy a shave I'll use two passes with the second about 45 degrees from WTG.

Thanked: 43 Passes every day but I'm probably headed for 2 passes on workdays and 3 passes on wifedays once my technique improves a little.

Thanked: 1When I started I could only do every 2 or 3 days. Then when I changed to a quality soap (colleen's) and my technique got better I get to shave everyday with no irritation. On weekends I go for about 2 to 3 passes and enjoy the feel of the breeze on my bbs!

My pre-shave routine is as follows:
- Soak brush and bowl in sink of hot water
- shower while everything is soaking
- dry off from shower
- make lather
- apply pre-shave oil (still experimenting with this step and whether it is necessary)
- apply nice coat of lather to face and neck
- cover face and neck with a hot wet towel (wet but not dripping wet) and keep it there for around 3 minutes (longer is better)
- wipe face off with wet towel after soak
- re-lather then proceed to shave
This routine really softens up your beard for the shave, I learned this routine in my DE days and it works wonderfully. The PSO is completely optional and I am still experimenting with that one, right now I am switching between jojoba oil and pure glycerin to see if there is any difference between them. So far I get good results with both but I think the jojoba oil is more moisturizing.
As always YMMV on any of this

Thanked: 2I shave every 2-3 days. My facial hair growth speed doesn't allow me to shave everyday
