Well i try to shave no more than once a day, 3 passes... often i skip a Saturday, but it is frowned upon.
that much irritation sounds bad... tell us about your razor and your prep...Be just and fear not.

I have to shave every day. On the weekends, EVERY NOW AND THEN...when I'm not leaving my house, I wont shave, usually for Sat only. I really enjoy that shave on Sunday before Church due to the day's growth. I have gotten irritation, but usually when I shave my face a number of times in a day testing razors, or when I'm rushed and push too hard. 95% of the time though, I dont have any problems. I may shave at night on Mon and then shave again on Wednesday morning. So I guess you could say thats every day and a half...

Pretty much everyday with 3 passes. If I get any irritation (rarely now), then the next day I will do just two passes. I occasionally skip a day if I am just doing boat work all day.

Keep in mind I'm a noob (3 weeks or so?) to the straight razor shaving world. Up until 2 weeks ago, I've been using a double-blade razor, because I've also found when I used to use anything more than 2 blades, I would get razor bumps and burn ALL over my neck (sensitive skin again!) I really only shave once every week or so, but I would like to start doing it once every few days/
Also, I'm not using a "legitimate" straight yet, I'm using the ones most barber shops use, where you can change the razor blade (disposable), but I change blades after every shave to keep them sharp. I haven't ordered my razor and strop off vintagebladesllc.com, but I plan to this week.
-Take a shower
-Dry off everything but my face and neck; run my badger brush under hot water, and make a nice lather in my mug and apply it to my face and neck
-Shave, one pass only since I just started. The first time I did my neck, which was last week, I had VERY bad razor burn, which speaks for the amount of pressure I use! I need to focus on not using any pressure, and get my angles down.
-Cold water rinse on my face post-shave
-Apply Nivea for Men Sensitive Skin After Shave Balm

So far, I'm waiting about 1-2 days in between. I haven't formalized a preshave routine yet (which seems important, thanks Kenrup for some ideas!), and I also like to watch the hairs getting sliced from my skin.

I will recommend ALWAYS showering before a shave. Remember to give your face a good wash so you soften up your skin and whiskers.
I like what one gent said....women will spend a full hour in front of the mirror getting their make-up right. Why can't we spend 40 minutes (that's how long I take still) to get our shave right?

Thanked: 1I try to shave daily, but sometimes my scheduling gets thrown off; not particularly important since I'm just a student anyhow.
I run 3-4 passes depending on whether or not I'm using a straight or a DE.

Although I am still new with straights, I understand the concept and by that I mean that if you are using proper technique (blade angle, no pressure, proper blade maintenance), there should be zero irritation. A few days ago I had my third straight shave and had the least irritation I had from a shave. The key is to try and make progress.....every shave use less pressure and try to improve the technique.
I find that my current situation requires me to shave no more than twice per week but I like the look of a clean shaved face and I also get alot of gratification from shaving so I find it hard to go more than two days.

I shave once a week, as I have slow, even growing facial hair. I never get irritation, surprisingly! I look at shaving as a fun, relaxing thing to do on a Thursday night before going home for the weekend to see the lady ;]
