Hey Gags,
Yes, it will most likely be around 3-4 weeks. You might want to check out another thread here in the newbie section...it was titled something like "How long does it take to hone a razor?" It details a similar situation and why it takes so long. It's probably on the first page.
Good luck!

How long it takes depends on what Jim (Vintage Blades) has in stock. He does try keep some prehoned razors on hand. If he has the one you ordered you will likely get it a couple of business days.
If he has to send it out to be honed - a few weeks to a month is probably a good estimate.
He is a great guy to deal with by the way.

Really? That's great to hear -- I'm definitely looking forward to receiving it, and knowing that it'll be shave-ready makes it even better.
Also, just checked the details for the honing option and they show that the razor I ordered is on inventory as being pre-honed and available for immediate delivery. Otherwise, I will receive an email saying it will take 3 weeks-1 month.
ruly user-friendly site! Glad I ordered from them.Last edited by Gags1892; 03-15-2008 at 10:03 PM.

Thanked: 0Greetings Gags1892,
I may be a little late... but my first, and so far only, is a Dovo Best Quality 5/8 Carbon Steel. I think it's similar to the one you mentioned, and so far I havn't been able to complain about it.
I also got the same strop you mentioned. I ended up cutting it up quite a bit while learning, and now I use an Illinois linen/leather strop. I still use the Dovo w/ a little polishing compound and it's great!
And good call on prehoning! I thought I'd just jump right in and it took me a long time before I actually enjoyed a shave.
I think you've got yourself set up with all the tools you'll need for success!
Enjoy!

Gothamitic, thanks a lot man, that gives me hope haha. Everytime I shave now with my low-end barber disposable razor, I realize that the blade is so dull for a straight (as weird as it sounds!)

Thanked: 0This is a good thread. I'm looking around ClassicShaving's Dovo section but can't find the Classic Black 5/8 that you mentioned. Does anyone have a link?
Thanks.
