After I finish shaving, I rinse my face in warm water to remove any remaining soap residue, then put the alum block under cold running water, rub the block over my shaved face and neck. After that, I go about cleaning the brush and scuttle etc etc. then rinse my face/neck in cool water (removing the alum block residue, towel dry) Splash on a little Pinard classic and done. I let the alum block air dry naturally.
