Welcome OF,
I'm a member of B&B also, but have learned much much more on SRP than I have over there. I agree, don't shower with the stright, but you can always join the commando club . Watch the buy sell trade section for some good deals on shave ready straights. They may be vintage, but you can trust the guys on here to give you an honest deal.

Thanked: 1Oh you know huh? LOL. I do that with the CD I use in the shower (little mirrors kept dropping and breaking all over the place). I keep upgrading and making things less complicating over the years but I'm glad I'm making the switch to a straight because then it won't be complicating anymore. Id have all my stuff around the sink and in the cabinets where they belong and not all over the place in the shower LOL.

Welcome aboard! Personally, I enjoy the vintage razors...there's just something about using a razor that's half-century to a century old.
And I also agree with EVERYONE else about the shower... The mirror shouldn't fog up TOO much after your done with your shower, and if it does, you can do what others suggested and rub some shave soap or barbasol on the mirror and buff it out.

Welcome to SRP, Oldfashioned - this is a great place to read and learn with very friendly, knowledgeable, and gentlemanly compatriots. Don't hesitate to ask questions - we're always glad to help if we can.
Also, the "sticky"s are great sources of information, as is the Library accessed through the home page.
Keep us updated on your progress - the learning curve is steep, but well worth it!

Thanked: 23Hi!
Hey, welcome aboard! I was sorry to see you thread over at B&B get hijacked, though in all honesty, I think you'll be happier here if you don't much care about DEs. I originally started off on B&B and found some interesting information, but I really never got much of a warm welcome or much help, to be honest. Not nearly so much as I got here. Besides, I got a little discouraged when I was looking at their DE stuff, all talking about less irritation and what you can do to avoid irritation and what you could do to avoid nicks and yada yada. I couldn't help but think, "These guys are complete wussies..." I mean, my face doesn't get irritated by hydraulic fluid, break fluid, year old motor oil... If you start telling me about how much Williams shaving soap bothers your skin, I'm afraid you kind of leave me scratching my head. :P
Oh, as a side note, I've used a DE for about as long as I've been shaving (I use Bic single blade disposables when I'm away from home, though) and I'm about to take the plunge in to straights myself. So I guess we'll see if I transistion better. :P
(Probably not, you seem to be setting yourself up far better than I am. I'm keeping my WIlliams soap and boar bristle brush. :P)
