Thanked: 1Hello all
Ive been given a personal invitation to join this board. I am also a member of B&B but feel this is better suited for me since Im interested in shaving with a straight soon until the end. I'm 25 and have just recently acquired a Savile Row 3122 and a host of soap/creams from Germany, Portugal and Italy. I currently own a 34c DE as well but dislike it. I shave daily with 3 passes with an M3 and always get butter smooth skin or "BBS" as they say but looking to make the switch soon. I'm in need of a good (type) straight and will get it professionally honed even before my first shave. I plan to own two in case one drops during my shower!

Thanked: 1Welcome to SRP! I hope you find a world of information and friendship.
I'd recommend perusing the BST forum, but the deals go very fast. If you're looking for a previously shaved-with razor, posting a thread there may be a good idea. Otherwise, there are several good options for razor puchases.
My Dovo Classic (which many consider a 'beginner' razor) is still in my rotation, as minimal as my rotation may be. So don't worry whether you'll be directed toward quality.

Thanked: 22I hope you don't plan to take the straight in the shower with you.
Yea I know what you mean.
Welcome aboard, as previously mentioned place an ad in BST and you should soon have a nice shave ready razor. Some don't come shave ready but the good folks here always let you know.

Thanked: 1thanks for the welcome. Do you guys think I should look for new straight razors or vintage ones? I did want to go with a new one, preferably a good brand (good as in Tabac is a good soap or proraso is a good cream you know ). Throw out some names. Im familiar with DOVO Solingen.
As for the shower shaving, Ive been doing it since I was 18 after a year of electric shaving. I dont have thick stubble in fact when I shave, you can't even see the stubble or even a day later so thats good. But do you guys recommend I do it after? Problems would be that im too used to it during the shower and it would clog my mirror (small bathroom..single, etc)Last edited by OldFashioned; 04-14-2008 at 05:06 AM.

Thiers-Issard are the best kids on the block and they cost it. Dovo are close behind. I'm sure you'd be as happy as the rest of us with an antique Sheffield like Wade & Butcher though. I shave with one almost every time.

Hey OldFashioned, welcome to the site. I am a two week newbie, and you will find that everyone here is exceptionally helpful.
As for the shower, I've never seen anyone recommend, or even approve of using a str8 in the shower. Two main reasons come up. 1) You can drop your str8, which could cut off your toe, or other significant appendages. 2) Worse yet, you could drop your str8 and ruin it. Either way, IMHO, it is just too much risk to take.
Enjoy, and welcome!

Welcome to SRP, OldFashioned!
As mentioned by others already: Do not even think about using a straight while in the shower! Always dry your hand before picking up a straight! Otherwise you're asking for trouble, my friend!
