yeah, but he already told me straight away to NOT buy those or anny other paki blades, he got a few cheap but isn't to happy about 'm either. The set isn't even in the store. It's stacked away somewhere.
But it's an old store that still onely does man shaving and hair. Shaves with straights onely.

I already had one just like these
Barbershop Classics The Shaving Shop
I bought one once at an army dump store because I wanted to learn to shave with it. And I kinda forgot I still had it. I found it last week and asked if he could hone and sharpen it for me.
But he told me straight away that would be a waste of time and money and that the onely thing they're good for is for a "fun" display.Last edited by Basch; 06-16-2008 at 04:37 AM.

Thanked: 2209Welcome to the SRP!
That Gong razor is good quality. Nice purchase!
The strop paste should not be put on to thick. A couple of drops, rubbed in, should be enough for a long time.
If that Gong razor comes back not shaving sharp then post a thread in the Hones forum asking for someone in your country to hone it for you. We have several people in The Netherlands.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Bas,
They claim to have a barber who does the honing for them so that should be OK. Otherwise I am willing to do it for you, just PM me.
Alex (LX_Emergency on SRP) does also do honing, he lives somewhere in Brabant, I live in Emmen, Drenthe.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

I got one back. A 5/8.
Not the gong but a different one, it passed the hairtest so at least it's sharp. Although it is weird that it seems to be harsher/less sharp than my shavette when shaving. But I believe I read somewhere that's quite common.
It's sais Estas Max Sommer on the Package but not on the razor.

Welcome to the forum! Sit down, relax, have a drink... you are among friends!
You are right to say that the razor feels less sharp than the shavette. It's normal. It's a different kind of sharp though... in fact, because of this difference, many of the more experienced gentlemen here sport the oppinion that one should not start the straight shaving journey with a shavette - just jump into the real blades! I know I did...
Once again, welcome. And feel free to ask any questions. They will be answered very very swiftly and you will learn a great deal from these guys. I know I did... and still do.
Best regards, Francisco.

I bought the shavette out of budget reasons, to see if it was for me. Is there a way to make the switch easier
