    As I understand it, the steel just crumbles as you keep honing. Get close enough to a sharp edge and the grains of metal on the leading edge just fall off. Much like a dog chasing it’s tail or a donkey striving to get that carrot dangling in front of his snout, the reward that will perpetually be just one step away but never happens.
