I tried using a facial scrub before shaving once, and it felt very rough.
Facial scrubs exfoliate. Straight razors exfoliate. By using a facial scrub you are using up one of the shaving passes you can do before getting irritation, that's how I see it.
I just wash with a mild cleaner once or twice before shaving now.
