I started with a Shavette..that one will always be shaveready and after some practice it gives me great shaves..
then I bought a Vintage ERN that needed cleaning and honing (which I couldnt do myself)
so I bought a crown from the classifieds... In the meanwhile the ERN was honed by Bart and is now in great shaving shape
To learn how to hone I bought a hone and a Julias Dirlam wedge... so thats three ..I realy like that one too.. its not a great looker but it has quite some character..
I accidently bought a Dorko last week as well.. still trying to find a way to explain that to SWMBO.. maybe I'll tell her a razor needs to rest for a week or so...
I think its just like music... how many CDs do you need?

Experience has taught me that SWMBO will never understand what you are doing. I have told her that I intend to replace eight double edge razors with one straight when I get up to speed with the one and that seems to have been something that she understands.
Here is another way to approach the matter, others have told me on double edge forums compare the number of straights that you have to the number of shoes that she has or the number of coats that she has. My wife has approximatly thirty coats in all and probably fifty shoes, some of them I have never seen her wear ever and I do not see her ever wearing any of them. How often does she wear those coats and shoes? I can guarantee that each of my razors - straight and double edge see action ever week. If she wore a different shoe every day it would take her a month to go through all of her shoes. These are some of the tactics that I have used.

Throwing their collections back in their face is not a good idea. At least it was not for me. Women use a different kind of logic than we do. I won't say a better logic or worse logic, that would be setting myself up for another comeuppance. They just think different. I broke my wife in about my collecting tendencies back in the 1980s when I got into mountain biking. 5 new bikes in 4 years tended to desensitize her to the shock of owning something just to own it. If I get into this straight razor thing in a big way, she'll just be happy it won't cost as much as the bike thing nor take up as much room in the garage.
One thing I learned is, the words, "I have to have this in order to......." Only works once or twice. Then it is a good idea to just be honest and say, "I want this because I want this."

True, my Mrs tends to be a minimalist when it comes to most things in her life. So I will probably use the fact that I intend to replace eight double edges with one straight, which is true. I will use the argument that eventually the straights will go to our four year old who will not have to buy anything at all ever. Straights are not like disposables they do not wearout you do not dispose of them they do not need to be replaced and a minimum of maintenance.

Thanked: 235A fate worse than RAD
There is something worse than catching RAD. That is wanting every razor you see, but living in a country where people consider the M3 to be the height of perfection. (Also the wife doesn't trust me with the credit card, so online purchases are out of the question as well)
