Thanked: 2Hello everyone, I'm filled with anticipation!
I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking here for a little bit, trying to gather information. The more I lurk, the more questions arise. I've had a ton of fun just reading posts about razors, soaps, techniques, rituals, etc. I'm 36, married with 2 kids. I recently had my first shave at a shop here in Orlando and it lit a fire in me. I am definately drawn into the many aspects of straight shaving that have been so well written on these message boards. The nostalgia of old times, the! calming effect of the routine, the masculinity of the process....I'm drawn to it all.
I haven't purchased a thing, but that will be changing in the near future. I've gathered some great info, but like I stated earlier, it's only leading to more questions. I look forward to chatting with you fellas and learning as much as possible.
Slainte/Cheers!

Welcome, Beamish
Ah yes, questions. Part of the fun about answering the good ones is that they just lead to more questions.

Welcome to SRP, and the correct way of shaving!
Feel free to ask questions. There is lots of experience here. My quick advice is that, when you are ready to purchase your first razor, don't get hung up on brand names. Your first razor needs to be truly shave ready! Period! In time you will figure out what works best for you and follow that road. There are several sources for shave ready razors, including our classifieds.

Hello and Welcome. It's a funny thing about this straight shaving. It seems to be two classes of people. Those who are nostalgic, get interested right away, and get hooked. And then those who wrinkle their nose and say"why would you want to do that?"(you'll hear from them).Anyway,do lots of reading, ask lots of questions, get good (not necessarily expensive)equipment, and you're on your way.

Hello and Welcome!
i must say that i got pretty lucky when i bought my first razor set since i found Tony Millers site (i did a lot of research but somehow didn't find this place at first) and it made a huge difference as the razor was shave ready and good quality, but nothing crazy (Dovo Best Quality). i have read many post on here even in the short amount of time i have been on about guys who rush into getting a cheaper razor and have some really bad experiences. good job on doing your research and finding the best people to answer your questions.

That old time barber shop is an excellent place to find a teacher to show you how to use that new straight when you buy it.
