    Default Newbie reporting as ordered

    Hello Gentlemen,

My name is Jason, and as my screen name implies, I am in the US Navy. Now, about my Straight razor experiance is this. My wife bought me a razor for Christmas, that I found out while lurking here is CRAP. I got one good shave out of it and no more after that. So now I am looking to try again, this time with a better razor. Now, where can I find a good quality razor for a little scratch? Sorry for the short post, more about me later, I am at work and Uncle Sam is watching. Thank you in advance for your help and advice.

    First, welcome!
Check out the classifieds here. You can buy a "shave ready" razor from a member here often for just as low a price as some of the crappy razors out there. It will state "shave ready" right in the add.

    Good luck!

    at first welcome
your best option will be check the classified section and contact seller ask about shave ready blade.this will make at least sure you will get save ready blade. Now i think you want cheap blade(i hope i am not mistaken)the cheapest shaveable will be double arrow and i really don't like it will better if you be ready spent alittle more money for straight razor.at least good one will last life long.which ones you want you have to make choose read wiki there is alot information abailable in there.May someone sells complete set just check it regularly.all seller's are members in here and you won't get wrong buying from them.you will need strop too.good luck soon you will see how this forum helpful

Welcome to SRP. Can you tell us what brand razor your wife got you? Pics would be nice also. For a 'cheat' but good razor that is shave ready the average price is ~ $50 and the price goes up from there. Check the Classifieds here and the vendor's forum.

    Hi,
You got one good shave, so there must be more in it! If you post details we'll know for sure. It's a shame that it's not performed since it was a gift.

Welcome aboard Jason! Former Navy here, and my son is currently on deployment on an amphib.

My best recommendation would be to get a shave ready razor from the classifieds. You will be getting a good quality razor at a very reasonable price. Kenrup (a member here) also sells starter sets. It's not that I am trying to steer you away from buying a sexy new one. Rather, get you started with a good razor so you can then determine what you really want. Start with something like a 5/8 or 6/8 round point.

    Welcome!!

+1 on the shave ready razor recommendation. you don't have to buy one from the classifieds but the guys on here are very trustworthy and trying to buy a shave ready razor somewhere else will be a crapshoot. there is a pretty good selection here also. some of the vendors on here offer starter kits, which is how i got started. read up on the tutorials and check out the videos on here and you should be fine.

    Thumbs up

Welcome and Thank you for your service!!!

If I got a razor as a gift from my wife, I would try to make it usable, at least for a while. You didn't say if she bought it new or if it is a vintage blade. If it is a decent blade, you may be able to send it to one of the member Honemisters for a good honing.
