    Just noticed this thread.
I would've said the razor Is dull, but after you posted what razor is I would rephrase - the razor is junk (and also dull).
Get yourself a razor made of high quality steel and no gimmicky coatings. I'd say the classifieds is your friend, unless you want a brand new razor in which case the best place would be one of the reputable vendors.

Your strop is good, chances are that the hone isn't.

Glad to be the bearer of good news - yes, the good information is good news. And I'm pretty sure all of our resident honemeisters will refuse to hone this thing.

Gugi is correct, I am sorry for your loss. If I were you and wanted to continue with the straight razor experience I would check the classifieds here @SRP. Everyone here has a reputation to protect!

Am I the only one who thinks just about any razor metal is capable of giving a good shave just many are easier to sharpen/keep sharp than others? (Not that I'm assuming it is not a rather dull razor atm)

Also I assume you are stretching your skin? It's one of the many little techniques you'll develop that makes a world of difference....

I guess Gugi is right, too... sorry. The razor doesn't seem the least bit promissing. Maybe we're wrong, mind me. But I, personaly, don't really trust the titanium coated gimmicks... The classifieds are your best bet to find a nice razor. But, for your ease of mind, send the razor out to be honed if you can.
And keep at it! The straight razor will provide you the best shave possible.
Good luck! And keep asking questions. There's no other way to learn!

I am not trying to be a wiseguy, But unfortunately no you are not, crap razors are produced without regard for quality and then sold on ebay and elsewhere everday. That is why we see so many posts and threads like these, almost daily. Unfortunately there are far too many unscrupulous manufactures and dealers who care nothing for their product or reputation, only their next sucker.

Actually technically the way you wrote that is correct "ANY RAZOR METAL" is capable...
However many of these "razors" are not made of "Razor Steel" so no, not any razor will be capable of attaining a shaving sharp edge....

In the Wiki under the newbies advice section is a list of new razor brands to avoid... It is hard to keep that list totally up to date because of so many of these cheap brands cashing in on the straight razor market...

In reality if it is new and does not say Dovo or TI on the tang be suspect of the quality, that is the easiest way to stay in good steel...

Or of course ask here on SRP if you are not sure...

PS and of course Nun was typing faster than I was hehehe
