Default Straight razors from U$ 20,00 to 200,00 what to start with?

Hello forum members, this is my first post so I'm sorry if this question has been too frequent or if I have posted on the wrong place, pardon for my bad english as well.

My question is: At what price point do we start to get a good straight razor, I have no need a luxurious state of art model, but I don't want do get the wrong first impression by shaving with a poor quality straight razor?

Many thanks and congratulations for maintaining such a great site!

welcome to srp glad to have you on board you will find a wealth of knowledge and experience here if you are looking for a good razor to get started with check out the classifieds for a shave ready razor you can get a great razor without breaking your wallet. get a razor, strop, brush and some soap you will not need a hone right away kenrup was selling some starter kits here is his link http://http://straightrazorpalace.co...r.php?uid=5374 read all the info you can on blade angle and newbie shaving

also a $25 vintage razor can shave as good as a new$300 dovo. one last thing stay away from ebay razors until you get some experience in what to look for there are a lot of misleading ads out there

Hi and welcome to SRP ! Here is some good stuff to read for starters and here are some videos you will want to check out as you progress.

What country are you in ? We could better direct you to a good source for finding a pre honed shave ready razor if we know where you are.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

You can buy new and get a good blade for $60-$200. You can get a good used blade for half the cost of the new. The folks on this board are truly helpful and will not steer you wrong. I would recommend getting your first blade from the classifieds.

If you already have some experience honing or have access to somebody that does I have been hearing about the Double Arrow razors. I picked up a couple at $9.50 each to give away to friends that are interested in starting. The website is Famous Double Arrow straight razor. Sharp as a...razor. - eBay (item 220346627431 end time Feb-16-09 11:42:56 PST)
I won't comment on the quality of shave because I haven't used them but they do sharpen up well.

If I knew the answer to that question I'd have the biggest, best and cheapest razor collection in the world. The reality is you can get a custom razor for a grand that shaves poorly and a $40 Eboy special that shaves like a million bucks.

The best bet for you is buy from one of the guys here and don't spend for than about $40-50 for your first straight.
