    Default Newbie SOTD

I thought it'd be cool to have a separate Shave of the Day forum here for us noobs- away from the intimidating collections and beautiful photos in the regular SOTD. It gives everyone a place to post instead of the standard "my first shave!" post we've all done.

And if it's not too Kumbaya, maybe we can all help each other out with something new we learned from our shave, from reading the forums, ask questions, drop pics of our blooming collections, or anything interesting. I'm sure the vets would weigh in and drop some advice as well.

I'll post mine, and we'll see if anyone else gives a crap

Came home from a busy day, tossed the shaving mug and brush in to a sink of hot water to preheat, then jumped in the shower for a quick steam. Decided to try out the microwaved hot towel thing I've been reading about, and aside from some sensitive fingers, it worked great! Opened up those pores nicely.

Preshave: Porasso preshave (in the shower)
Razor: Dovo 5/8 Silver Steel Ebony
Soap: Classic brand Sandalwood with a few drops of glycerin
    Brush: Stephen's Woodworking 26mm
AS: Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort Aftershave Balm

I've been trying out the Uberlather thing lately at the expense of some of my soaps, so I decided to go back and give them a turn. Soap+Glycerine=decent lather, but Soap+Cream+Glycerine=awesome. Gonna have to pick up some unscented cream so this extra soap lying around gets used up.

Still really struggling with my chin. Just haven't figured out how to stretch it right, I guess. I end up making a million tiny strokes just to get a barely passable shave there. Otherwise rocking

    Razor: Dovo En Vogue 5/8
Brush: Onyx handled super badger from TheShavingShack
Cream: Taylor of Old Bond Street, almond shaving cream

Tons of stropping done earlier in day
Shampoo'ed face, applied hair conditioner to face
Lathered in bowl kept warm in sink of hot water
Applied very hot towel to face for about a minute

Shaved WTG/XTG, this was enough for face area, even upper lip! (normally do an ATG pass there nowadays but simply wasn't needed today.)
Shaved ATG below chin, tried same on neck (awkward for me due to hair growth)

Wiped face with alum block, cleaned up; cold rinse face. Nivea for Men Sensitive extra soothing balm to finish.

Best shave in 6/7 weeks of straight shaving so far.
Able to detect minor stubble rubbing ATG in the crease of my neck, other than that a near perfect shave.

First time I used a towel so hot it hurt a bit, and it seemed to improve the shave. My faith in the benefits of stropping continues to grow.

    Hi kenneyty,

I tried this a couple of months ago but it wasnt welcomed by the vets as a great idea..

I found that posting in the SOTD wasn't all that scary after all....

I do not see a problem with doing this but is there a reason why newbies like us should not be included in the "regular" SOTD.? I do not see why anybody should feel intimidated, but if people do, perhaps it may be a good idea to say why. I am sure that the fix WILL! be found. . This is a forum of friends for friends if you know what I mean. The race is against yourself, not anybody else. As for the equipment, some of us have "nice and expensive" equipment and supplies and some of us do not... At the end of the day, like it has been said many times, shaving is more than removing hair from your face. And by the way, I know a few newbies that have impressive razors, etc. As for the pictures, man, anybody with the drive can do it. There is a even, at least one thread that comes to mind that addresses this topic. Also, many of the entries in the SOTD do not have pictures... Plus, you do not have to post pictures of yourself after you shave. So, you can do this if it makes you feel good but it there is really no need.

Well when I was posting this thread about a SOTD for newbee's I was actually looking for things that newbs do wrong so I could get better shaves by learning from others mistakes. These things are mostly the small things that dont make it to questions in seperate threads..

If you post something about your shave in SOTD you also dont get much feedback because that thread is not really ment for discussions...

try putting your lower lip over your bottom teeth i found this to work well for stretching the skin also tilting your head back will also help
