Trouble Areas
After years of dragging a cheap electric razor across my face every morning, I decided to return to wet shaving. After doing some research I purchased the various components required to shave with, and maintain, a straight razor. And thus began the process of figuring out how to get a proper shave.
Following SRP's advice I started out with only shaving my sideburn/jaw area. After becoming comfortable with that I tried to move on to other parts of the face. This is where I've run into trouble.
I am finding it difficult to maintain a 30 degree angle while shaving around the chin and lip areas. Is there a certain trick for this, or is it simply a matter of practice?

Welcome to the forum.
It's just practise i'm afraid. This is the area that most fellas struggle to learn to shave well. It is awkward at first. Watch a few video's on the tube, that may help. If you keep at it you'll get it eventually!

the best thing i can suggest is to try and pull the skin either up or down to make it on a flat surface rather then the curve of your chin. this is what i do for my chin and jaw line and it seems to work good. another thing is that i really don't do a full ATG on the chin as the hair is too thick. i just do a modified XTG both ways where i go basically betwwen XTG and ATG. it works for me, hope it helps.

Sort of like my golf swing once in awhile.. Just practice, and making some mistakes along the way...

Hey Bone.. seems you are doing great.. after 3 months of shaving I just discovered this weekend how I needed to stretch my cheeck to get my upperlip BBS ...
So Its just a matter of practice and trying some different things every now and then...
last week I discovered that the hairs on my chin were growing in other directions than I initialy thought..
Well good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the advice! After a few more shaves I've found that getting around those areas is getting easier.
