Alright, so careful cleaning, without any soaps/ polishes that could damage it, and make sure to let the blade dry thoroughly.
What about getting rid of a few watermarks on the blade? Windex? Clean it under the tap again, and let it dry properly?

Goldwash aside, I rinse the blade only in hot water (not the scales) and wipe it with a tissue. I strop a dozen round trips on the horse to get any micro gunk out of the striations. Then I wipe the blade, tang, monkey tail with a soft cloth with some rust preventative.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Personally, I hate gold wash. Its for display razors not a working razor. if you use it on a regular basis it will fade. Its probably best to just accept that and move on.Yea I know some guys will say they have 50 year old blades and the wash is like new but to me its not worth the effort trying to preserve it.
