I have no idea I left it at the 200 setting but backed of the scope a little, adjusted focus and took a larger part of the image in PS.

Same here, Brother. I have been looking around to buy my first Straight Razor.

Then I saw that scary picture!

Just an observation - I've been looking into buying one of these, and it seems the magnification values are misleading. They seem to be saying that if you view the image on a 15 inch screen, the magnification is 200x. That is VERY different from magnifying 200x then capturing the image!

So what you are looking at is a field of view 15/200 inch diagonally, or 0.075" = 1.9mm.

Which is OK, but the manufacturers are using a bit of spin to exagerate the quality.

I would have thought not seeing any progress bars would be a better endorsement

I was looking at these and there seems to be a 400x one for only £10 more. Would that be too much for razors? Maybe you could move it further away for less magnification?
The reason I am considering buying one is not razor related but it would be nice to kill 2 birds with one microscope

You know what would be really awesome.....if some one with a microscope could post examples of overhoned edges, microchips, different stages in the honing process, warped edges, etc. If you have the time and the resources. I think it would help me understand some things better. Thanks.

This is hilarious. My attitude is exactly the same. That's why for this straight razor business I really need to go against what's ingrained on my DNA and take deep breaths, relax, and stay calm.

As I said in an earlier post, in my life it's rare that I ever do anything gently.
