Default what should i get for a starter's razor?

i've been DE shaving for about 2 years now and have just about everthing one can own for DE shaving.

just wanted to know what sort of razor i could think about getting if i wanted to get into straight razor shaving?

should i dive straight into an expensive razor like a Thiers-Issard or a dovo? extra hollow?
    5/8 6/8 ???

i was thinking about a pre sharpen dovo classic 5/8... runs around $100

comments and advise would be really appreciated..

    thanks

    Hi!
Whatever you get, get it shave ready. You could opt for a Thiers, or Dovo, but for the money you'll get far better value in the classifieds right here. They're nearly all sold shave ready, but just check it with the seller if it's not stated. Good luck!

Oh, & a 5/8 is a good place to start.

The classifieds have some good ones, make sure its shave ready and get a 5/8.

If you buy online at another store, you MAY have to send it out to get it honed.

    Welcome.

Couldn't say it better myself. The classifieds is a great place to start. Good razors at very attractive prices. Kenrup (a member here) sells starter sets at great prices, too. There are other vendors here who have great razors. Check the Vendors Corner forum...

it's really up to you, depends what's important to you. if you want a razor that's only been honed once and shave tested since it left the factory, these two are pretty much your only options.
5/8 to 6/8 is what we recommend as a starting place.

You know, My first razor was a Dovo 5/8th's from Jim and Erin over at Vintage Blades. Had it honed by Lynn Abrams.
Never regretted it. What's nice is, it's brand new, your pretty much guaranteed no problems, if you do happen to have one, Jim will take care of you. I think the Dovo is an outstanding razor. I have several, and love the way they shave. They are among my best shavers. You will not disappointed, You'll have a nice new razor, that no one else used and has been only honed once.
Once Lynn get's done with it, You'll know how it's supposed to feel. They offer a pre honing service by Lynn at checkout...

P.S. I was just looking through the classified myself. Pickin's are slim, most everything I saw was sold. If you don't know what your looking for, you may have problems. The Dovo 5/8th's is a perfect starter razor, and not too pricey.

I invested in a Thiers-Issard Sheffield Silver Steel, Sicilian Olivewood, 5/8 Fully Hollowed to start with.

thanks guys for all the info... i'll check on the classified but as Rich said , if i don't know what i'm really looking for then i could be asking for trouble.
may go and pick up that classic dovo 5/8 shave ready razor for around $100, i don't think that prices will vary dramatically all that much in the classifies?? will they ?
i mean maybe i'll save $10-$20, but having a razor that's honed only once and trouble free is worth the little cost.

As somoene who paid too much for my first sraight, I highly recommend not buying new. Why? Because you have no idea what you want. Second, used is just plain cheaper.
