Thanked: 0DOH!
I just got my fist straight from Seraphim. It was beautiful, better than I could have imagined. Shave ready but I decided to sterilize it again just to be safe. OK so I misread the srpwiki. I did a 10-20minute soak in ethanol and yeah that should have been enough. But not for me, I was fool hardy. I went for a second wash with clorox. UH OH. That right I used a weak bleach solution, without thinking it through, and the wiki say clorox(but it also says NO BLEACH afterwards) should of double checked before I started but didn't cos I was all excited to shave with it.
Now the blade is still functional but far less pretty as it has little blemish spots (oxidation) all over. I am SAD, and not 'cos I keep buying strops.
So now to the question, what is the best way to polish out the spots?
Thanks M0nk3y

Thanked: 1195Try some metal polish, I think most members recommend Maas, and buff it out. It's worth a try at least.

Well, I'm not sure if you realize it but your edge is also gone.
Depending on how badly it is the blade may need some sanding. If you'd be doing it you should do the least aggressive methods and using coarser medium if the current one doesn't seem to work.
It's afterall just steel and you need to remove all metal above the bottom of the pits so that you have a flat smooth surface again.
And then it needs honing.

Thanked: 3795A few others on this list have recommended bleach for disinfection. It's kind of like using dynamite for a toothache.
I haven't made much use of the wiki and couldn't find the reference. Could you explain the clorox/no bleach issue? Does it actually say to use it and to not use it? If so, this should be corrected to strictly not using it.

Thanked: 0Bleach is a no no because it reacts with steel. The wiki say to use clorox w/o bleach or clorox wipes...
in the meantime, a lot of elbow grease and the stains are much less but not gone.
