How many shaves do you do?
Personally I just do a WTG pass and don't worry about the others.
And my shave takes about 15 mins (Dovo shavette, so no honing or stropping)
But if I was to do and XTG and ATG it would take a lot more than 3 times as long. If you add a "real" blade Iam sure I would hit an hour!!Last edited by maca; 04-02-2009 at 10:56 AM.

Thanked: 171From the second I put brush to soap to the just after I've cleaned up and put aftershave on, it takes me 25-30 minutes. I almost wish it took longer. It's the most enjoyable and relaxing time of my day, the part I most look forward to. I definitely don't rush it!
FWIW, when I first started traditional wetshaving with a DE, it was taking me roughly 45-50 minutes. As I set into my routine and got better and more efficient at making lather, cleaning up, knowing the grain of my face and the passes I needed, etc, etc, it came down to about 25 minutes even with the DE. The straight doesn't take me much longer, save for stropping, which is a minute or less.

When I first started I was so slow and inept that I had to rinse and re-lather one side of my face because by the time I got to the other side the lather had dried up. That was on the first few times doing my whole face. Once I got fairly coordinated it began to take 20 to 25 minutes. Now I can do my regular 2 passes in around 15 without rushing at all.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

You sound like you're doing fine. For the first three or four weeks I'd set aside a couple of hours and be amazed if I came in under one and a half of them. Around three to six months in it had, as with X-Man, almost imperceptibly moved down to an average of half an hour or so. Now more than a year in, fifteen-twenty minutes. As has already been said, it's the ride that counts.

I look forward to a 45 minute shave.
I have only been using a straight razor for a week and am still mapping my face.
As Glen told me when he got me going - Enjoy yourself and don't hurry.

Thanked: 25I think that this amount of time is not bad at all. I like to take that long. I can usually do it in 20 minutes if needed, but I like to take my time. Better shave and gives me my "me" time for the day.
