Ahh the straight razor did'nt come right off the bat exactly, I've been making knives for a short while now and have done a bushcraft knife, a skinner, two bowies one small one large and a slip joint folder. Then one night someone put a link on the forum to this site and that was it. The seed was planted. It took about two weeks to finish the project I was on and then there was no stopping me. One six inch file, two hours grinding, about four hours polishing then a good couple of hours to sharpen, hone and strop (All by hand.) and there it was one straight edge razor. (Ishould mention at this stage both my fore arms and a potion of my stomach were completely bald.) The next night I dressed it in brass. It also took me atleast a week and half to get the nerve up to actually use it.

Right! You asked for it so here we go, This is the first I made, dressed in brass with a bone stop it is now more of a wedge than hollow ground as its the one I practised sharpening on, it will still give a good shave but is harder to keep a good edge on.
    .
This is the fixed blade one and this one is scary sharp so much so I think your stubble jumps out when it sees it coming, its a real pleasure to use.
    .
    Hope you like.

Bloody hell mate, they look fantastic. The shaves are SO much more comfortable aren't they?

    Fancy doing another one . . .

Again welcome and keep us informed
Would love to but I do the grinding at work while the machine is running so I keep having to stop to see to that, plus it would be getting someone to hold the camera so I'm stuck really. This is something I really would like to do because the art of freehand grinding on an open wheel is a dying trade.

At the moment I'm in the process of doing a replacement for the one in brass, once thats done then I'll try to regrind the old one. Should this be succesfull then it will go to a good home free of charge.

I'd like to put my name down for that one

Pretty amazing that you do it all freehand.

    Default Amazing

I'm a newbie (no razor just yet) and have to say I'm totally impressed. Congratulations on making such a functional piece of art.
