Thanked: 2Buying a straight razor (Classifieds)
I am looking for a straight razor, obviously I am new to this whole thing I would like to buy the razor at:
Kamisori, 6/8 carbon steel straight razor, olive handle - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
Can anyone tell me if this is a good decision for a beginning razor? Anything will be helpful.

Thanked: 293Well... I can't get to that link for some reason, but I have just recently purchased a straight razor from a reputable member here and it should be arriving in the next few days. So far the experience here has been great and I haven't even started yet. If you're unsure of the blade or have any questions, shoot a PM to the seller and you should probably get a good answer.
Good Luck!

Can't use the link, but I may have some advice... First off, how much are you wanting to spend? If you are just getting into this, I really would suggest getting something from the classifieds that is shave ready and under 50 bucks.
for example this razor in the classifieds would probably be a good starter . I am not endorsing this particular razor... but I just went through the classifieds and saw lots of good options in this same price range that would be GREAT starter razors (actually just great razors period).

At the bottom of the add on that razor, is a post from Alex Jacques, He's makes razors and scales. He directs you to read another thread about those razors. I suggest you read it first....Rich

Thanks O.S. That was a pretty cool link. I like those old threads because it's like watching a movie or something. It starts off with a conflict and then I get to read 10 pages of attempted resolutions.

Cla, you listen to OLD SCHOOL. I purchased a great razor from him in the classifieds. A 5/8 or 6/8 round point is a nice razor to start with. You can also get a spike point as many of our members cut their teeth on one. Although a rount point tends to be a bit more forgiving to the newbie. Whatever you get, ensure it is shave ready, it will state so in the ad.
