Thanked: 137N00b saying hi...
Hey all,
I've been lurking here for a couple of days and thought I might as well introduce myself. I'm Tom, 21, from Dunedin in New Zealand. I came across this site somehow, and after a bit of looking around I've caught the straight razor bug. I've now got 4 razors coming from overseas (one being honed, 3 waiting on payment) and I've sourced a brush (a badger/boar blend - not quite rich enough for a badger yet), soap, strop, bowl and EDT locally, somehow.
My city (probably a town by US standards) doesn't have a barber who does straight razor shaves, but I had one in Auckland a while back and it was incredible. My friends think I'm mental for even wanting to try it, but I'm sure they'll turn to the dark side eventually. Really looking forward to my razors arriving so I can start trying out all the tips I've got from here and work my way towards that perfect BBS shave.
If I get my camera fixed I'll try to put up pics of my razors when they arrive, just cos I can.
Good to meet y'all, keep an eye for me lurking around.

Thanked: 132Hey Tom
Noob here as well. When joining this site, be prepared for the ride of your life. Ive had few hobbies or passions in my life...until that fateful birthday in January. I never thought id become so interested...possibly obsessed with something like this, but it happened and its a great ride. The moderators and seniors on here are patient, knowledgible and just fantastic. I hope you get the razor high ive been getting.
Peace bro,
Mac.

Kia ora Tom.
Welcome & enjoy the ride. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 137I got a Dovo 5/8 "Best Quality" RP, a Shumate Tonso 5/8 RP, a Morley & Sons Clover Brand 11/16 (barber's notch), and a "Regina" Kraut & Donal Chicago 4/8 ( I think SP but hard to tell from the pic) - I won't be using that one straight up, I'd like my first shave to be gash free.
The first one was PIF'd to me, the other 3 were $95 plus $5 Intl postage, so think I got a rather good deal there. Now to buy brushes etc locally *blanches at the exorbitant local prices*

Welcome!
Welcome aboard. The best investment I made when I got started was red towels.
