Start using the left for as many elements of shaving as possible and this will train the muscles for shaving and deliver better results than just using one hand. It is also to your benefit as you never know if you will not be able to use your dominant hand to shave.

I'm ambidextrous (or more truthfully, equally clumsy with either hand). But in January I slipped on ice and cracked an elbow bone on left arm, so had limited movement range and strength for a few weeks.

It didn't help me to straight shave with only my right hand. I had to go back to my DEs until the left arm healed. Why? Because I can't straight shave properly without using the other hand to stretch the skin. Maybe some can, but not me. If I stretch, everything works just fine; if not, real trouble. So you need two hands to straight shave, even if you always hold the razor in only one hand.
