Strops
I guess the advantage with the wider strop is that you do not have to make the "X" pattern in order to strop the full width of the blade.
With the narrower strop you will need to move the razor in an "X" pattern as you move up and down. IE; You start with the tip of the blade not on the leather and as you move the blade you slide it diagonally across the strop as well so that the tip of the blade will be on the leather at the end and the heel will be off it. This ensures even stropping across the whole cutting edge. There are videos of this on Youtube and explanations with pictures on the Wiki site also.
The wider strop will allow you to put the whole blade on at once, so you will only have to move directly up and down the length of the strop. I guess that would be an "l" shape..! This will probably make the whole stropping experience a bit easier at the start, so if theres not too much difference in price its probably benficial to get the wider one.
and let us know what you decide on!
Hope that helps!

I disagree that you "have to" make an X pattern on a strop that is narrower than the blade. I have blades wider than my strop, but I strop up and down slowly moving my blade such that the whole blade gets stropped. I'm not sure that I can explain this in person... I guess the best way to explain it is that instead of moving all the way from the heal to the toe in a single pass (like you would for the X pattern), I move from the heal to the to in many passes. I find this to be a much more natural motion for me.

Is that the one Ronnie posted? I've not interacted much with him, but he is an upstanding forum member. Also, Robeson's are great razors. I'd say go for it.

OK so I am just too slow on the classified razors (the last one sold).
Just bought the Dovo 6/8 Renaissance...
Cant wait to get it. I have been making the shaving cream with good results...nice lather, smooth, great to shave with. Been watching the movies on the shave itself.
Still waiting for the Strop to arrive from Tony. I am sure that will be here any day now.
Am I missing anything?

Only the great amount of pleasure you're going to get out of shaving with that wonderful blade!
But actually, I think you should get a paddle strop that you can use with chromium oxide, to keep the edge keen every 5-10 shaves or so. Tony could provide the paddle strop as well, or you might try searching for "balsa wood" which should lead you to some posts on how to make a simple strop for the chromium oxide. Search for the member "chrisl" here and PM him about getting some chromium oxide.
