Well now you have a collector's item as well as a great shaver.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

In general, there are two groups of stainless steel, the 300 series is non-magnetic and the 400 series is magnetic. It probably is a 400 series stainless and you shouldn't worry about it. If you sharpen it well, it will probably give you a good shave.

I often work with stainless steel. Yes, the steel series 4xx magnetic and also rusts, the steel 3xx not magnetic and practically does not rust.

Thanked: 15If you can shave with it and keep it sharp--enjoy the experience. Until you have more razors then you can reasonably rotate, it shouldn't matter. The whole idea is to have a wonderful experience. Once you start collecting then all these particulars take on some significance. You have a beautiful razor--enjoy!

doesn't matter what its made of it matters how they interact
technically only iron cobalt and nickel are magnetic, but they have some super conducting synthetic magnets made out of ridiculous heavy metals and other stuff that has formulas like B64U345Je2039JDSK2-39sdklfj-93ulsdf.
Another instance of this is You take one highly flammable chemical, add it to one of the most corrosive materials known to man, and get something very very healthy. What is it? Hydrogen and oxygen make water. Na, highly reactive, and CL, poisonous, make table salt. KNO3, a preserving salt, and sugar, very delicious, mixed make sucrose nitrate- rocket fuel. NH4N03, a fertiliser, and almost anything with a carbon chain-sugar, gas, flour, alcohol, etc makes ANFO- Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil- aka fertiliser bomb aka most early explosives aka IED etc.
The magic is in the mix.

Yup as far as I know the only three elements that are magnetic are Cobalt Nickel and Iron. there maybe some very rare very heavy metals as well but nothign in a razor but maybe traces, which wouldn't really have an impact. And the reason they said nickel wasn't magnetic is they were saying high nickel steel is not magnetic, and I was trying to say that maybe the way they are alloyed the magneticism cancels out. By your logic, all raw iron is magnetic or at least will respond to a magnet, and therefore since all steel is primarily iron all steel should be magnetic, this however is not the case.

Thanked: 4942Hi Jon,
I wasn't kidding and actually we are checking this batch to see if any others like this. I think Dovo accidently put a Stainless blade in here and had it etched like the other Tortoise Specials. That is what is rare about it. If there are any more, I do want one for me.
As far as keeping it, sounds like you already found out what a nice shaver this is. It only gets better!! Keep us posted on your progress.
Thanks,
Lynn

I'll be merciful and not take your easy money. My Dovo Renaissance is FHG Inox and it is much stiffer than a FHG CS. It shaves and sounds more like a 1/4 to 1/2 hollow than a FHG. So far as the honing, I've never honed it from fully dull, but for touch-ups on the chrome oxide strop or on the ultra-fine Spyderco it takes about 3 to 5 times as many passes as a CS blade. It also sounds more like a 1/4 hollow on the leather, too. YMMV, of course.
