Thanked: 10Dovo Perlex 5/8" Input?
So I as I've said before, I'm fairly new to this. I've decided to go with Dovo as my first true straight razor. I read a post in the razor review section about the 5/8" 'Dovo-Special' Tortoise Shell and it seems like a good choice for me. That said, I like the looks of the 5/8" Perlex more. Can anyone tell me if theres a major difference in the two, other than some extra gold wash on the blade and different patterns on the scales? It would be extremely helpful if anyone has experience with it and a review they could pass along as well.

Unless nowadays Dovo is putting the same blade in the imitation pearl scales they are different blades.
The 'special' is carbon steel blade and personally I like it better than the other modern carbon dovos that I've tried. The 41 blade is stainless steel.
Get the pearlex if you like it better, it's a pretty good razor. I am partial to the vintage version, but that's not easy to find.

Thanked: 259i have the dovo perlex 6/8, it has the round point instead of the spike. i really like the size better and the round point is a little easier to handle especially when just starting out. i do not think you can go wrong with any of the dovo. BUT make sure you buy it with a professional hone already completed and you will have something to judge other razors by and know what you need when you decide to start honing yourself..good luck

Thanked: 190Dovo Special
I have the Tortoise scale Dovo Special blade. The scales are nice on this and the Perlex. Since you have to look at it everyday you use it, go with what appeals to you most.
The blade is good. Takes an edge easy and shaves well. A good preforming blade for the money.

I have both razors that you mention, the 5/8 Dovo Special imitation tortise and the 5/8 Dovo Perlex. Both are high carbon Swedish steel. Same blades, just different gold wash as you said. I use them both as daily users and I am very satisfied with both of them. I think it's just a matter of personal appearance appeal in your decision between these two.

Nice! It looks alot like a DD. How does it shave? So now what are the differences in this one and a Fritz Dovo?

Actually, that is a Fritz Bracht Dovo. It's a great shaver. Just how you'd expect it to be. Every once in a while it makes it in to the rotation...
