Oh, and if you find a razor you want in the classifieds, email the seller and they may be able to make other payment arrangements. It can't hurt to ask.

OK! I'm pming the guy about this razor now.
Wilkens 6/8 full hollow smiling blade - Straight Razor Place Classifieds

I will go to the saddle shop and see what they can do for me, and if I don't come up with something by the time I get my razor I would gladly take you up on your offer.

I'm fairly certain I will manage though. Thanks for your help

That looks like an excellent starter razor to me, and the seller has been around long enough that he knows what a sharp razor is. If he says it shaves well, then it does.

Let me know about the strop. No strings.

Ok looking back I also found these:Casco by Field Cut. Co. Germany – 11/16”, celluloid scales - Straight Razor Place Classifieds

FS: Clauss Fremont - Straight Razor Place Classifieds

Kosmo 11/16, bone scales. (reduced) - Straight Razor Place Classifieds

If it were your choice which would you buy?

I like the look of the wilkens but I prefer quality and value than looks though. I have no idea what I'm looking at either.

Others may have different opinions, but personally, I don't think it matters at all.

Those are all priced fairly, and are all razors that should give a good shave with a little practice.

The more expensive ones have nicer scales, which may or may not matter to you.

I say, look at the pictures, talk to the sellers about making payment arrangments (better to actaully email them than post replied in the classifieds) and buy the one that looks like the razor for you. It's purely subjective.

If it were my choice I would get the CASCO. Its cheaper, its German (so far in my books German=absolute best, best cars, best engineering, best weapons (for those of you who want to argue, Heckler and Koch=HK, MP5 is HK, UMP is HK, USP is HK, Mauser is HK...), best beer, etc. including best razors.), and it looks great- granted the one bolster looks to be missing at the pivot, but honestly, scales don't mean much, especially if you're on a budget. The blade however, looks to be squeaky clean, no pitting and a mirror polish, and the spike is "lightly" neutered which may help you avoid some newbie nicks. I guess the Kosmo is a close second but I like the scales on the Casco a little more.

Also, some more advice on a slightly different topic. I know you said your acne cleared up, and mine has too, but I have found that if you look around a bit and find a total care product line it'll do your skin a world of good. I chose Neutrogena Men and have only good things to say about them. I tried Proactive and it doesn't even compare! I recommend the preshave scrub for while you're in the shower, it really cleans out your pores and stuff and moisturizes. I use a different shave soap, but have tried both their shave cream and canned shave cream- the former will work in a pinch and camping etc when a brush/soap isn't practical, the latter is the best canned stuff I've ever used, very close to actual shave cream, I used it while I was in disposables and it fixed a lot of my personal problems (not all though). I would still recommend a different shave soap, but I'm just saying for arguments sake it is definitely usable, just not the best. Follow up with the post shave lotion and it burns like razor burn for about 30 seconds, then you feel outstanding. When you put it on it feels very watery, and stays that way... you can watch your skin soaking in all that moisture. Best of all, all their products are designed to clean (and not block) pores, be non oily, and try to help with razor bums and such. So far its worked for me. Thought it was wroth mention though. But see what works for you. I think we as men don't take enough care of our faces, and if you address this it'll work wonders for you. No, it doesn't make you less of a man, as the saying goes- Manners maketh man- or- Cleanliness is next to godliness.

I wash my face with a natural tea tree face soap and it works really well.

I've also found that Suave mens shampoo noticeably helps as well. (not on my face, my hair. I think the cleaner your hair is the better your skin on your face is)

But there's definitely room for improvement, considering the price tag on my face soap. While I'm at wally world I'll check the nutrogena products out as well.

I'm honestly wondering what the cashier is going to think when I show up with a pile of soap and a shaving kit and other such stuff lol.

It's a good thing I'm feeling particularly good about my masculinity or I don't think I'd have the guts to do it xd

    Lol
At my last job they started a list in the backroom: "reasons we think Karl is gay"
Every time I said something even remotely fashionable or to do with health or anything, it was quoted. I AM straight btw. Things on the list included: Matches belt to shoes, more face creams/products than girls, KNOWS more about hygiene than girls, uses hair products other than shampoo (conditioner), matches shirt to pants (since when is this gay?) etc. It was actually pretty funny, we all laughed it off.

And to make the shaving stuff less awkward, also buy the biggest box of the XXL condoms, 30 magnums should do. Remember to grin stupidly, use double entendre, and wink a lot. I doubt the check-out chick will even notice that you bought beauty products...
