Default First Time User - Strop Questions

    Hello All,
Im excited today to be posting my first thread on this great site. My question is regarding a quality beginner strop. I dont know if I feel comfortable spending upwards of $40 or $50 for my first strop, as I have read the many posts citing how beginners often damage their first strop. So, Ive been looking on Ebay, and have come across two strops: the first is from a brand named 'Trojan', the second a 'Finis' strop. If anyone can lend some of their knowledge on these strops or beginner strops in general, I would be very appreciative.
    Thanks to all in advance
    Howie

I've never heard of either one but I congratulate you for making your first post a question before buying something rather than asking the more common "I just got this on ebay, is it any good?"

Welcome ! My first strop was a Jemico , which is a little on the small side . But it served me well until I bought my Tony Miller Artisan strop .

I would take a look around these forums - there are, I think, a few people here who make a cheaper beginner's strop. You can definitely trust the guys here.

18.00 dollars, what is nice too is when you are done getting your technique down you can use it as a travel strop, or paste it.

    RupRazor - Strops

the "filly" is $20 and I believe the owner is a member here so you can get answers to any questions. Haven't used it personaly but I'm sure people who have will chime in to reassure you of its quality.

Also TM (tony miller thewellshavedgentleman.com) strops have the option to pay and extra $8 to add a practice strop to the order that way you only pay shipping once get a practice strop to tear up and a nice strop for when your ready.

    hope this helps, good luck!

If you have the money this is a much better way to go, since I have never heard a bad comment on tony miller strops. I plan on getting one myself but wife has told me to stop buy razor stuff for a while

There is no razor "stuff" possesions/collectables/treasures perhaps but never stuff

Also tell her you're not buying but instead stimulating the economy

If that works, his wife is either much slower, or much more forgiving than my ex wife was.
