Thanked: 0Hello Gentlemen
Hello,
I have been intrigued by straights for a long time and time has come for me to make the step and start the learning process.
According to my research on this forum I should get a 5/8 or 6/8 hollow ground carbon steel rounded.... Let me know if this is wrong.
I have been looking through the classified section of the forum and I would appreciate any guidance...
Thanks.

Thanked: 15I would recommend a 5/8 round point full hollow and have it honed by one of the masters on this site. There are plenty of nice razors for a reasonable price to start.

Welcome to SRP!
I started with a 5/8 round point half hollow and feel it was ideal.

Welcome. 5/8 is where I started also. Make sure you spend plenty of time with the beginners section of the WIKI
Beginner's guide to straight razor shaving - Straight Razor Place Wiki
Be patient and take your time I haven't met anyone who has mastered str8's in a day (almost 2 months for me and I'm still having those ah ha moments regularly).

The Dovo Best Quality razors are ideal for newbies. I know because I'm a newbie and that's what I'm learning on.

Thanked: 15Congrats on your decision. That's the first step. Take your time and go slow. This is a marathon not a sprint! Enjoy the process and ask questions. We all have at one time or another.

Personally I recommend the Dovo Inox since it has stainless steel blades which are real nice if you don't want to be hovering over your blade taking care of it every day. Carbon steel rusts, where as stainless resists rust.

Some great razors in BST, especially in the 5/8 range. You could handle a spike if it's not too 'spiky'.
