Thanks for the optimism everyone.
As for the soap, it's a hand made soap from my local farmer's market. It is Oatmeal soap, aside from the positive affects to your skin it also help prep your beard by raising the hairs for shaving. I've only used it once but it seems to lather well and has a faint scent, which is good since I don't like strong scents. It was six bucks for a good size bar of it.

A tip-- be sure to keep your shaving hand and the tang of the razor completely free of soap-- it gets real slippery. I keep a folded towel next to the sink to dry my hand and wipe off the tang, plus it is a "safe" place to put down your razor during the shave.
