    Default New to Straights

Hello everyone. Just wanted to check in and say hello. I am new to straight shaving but have been DE shaving for about a year and a half. I am a member at a couple of the other forums and some of the names here look familiar. I have a new straight on the way and look forward to actually getting to perform my first shave. I plan on reading the boards here for many hours, especially in the concept of stropping. My first stropping experience was damaging, to the strop and razor, and thankfully a member here is fixing my screwup.

Good to see you over here. Make sure to check the wiki. Are you using an SE? I cannot remember. If so your learning curve could be relatively short.

    Welcome.

    Hello and welcome!

Decided to make the upgrade from DE to straight eh? Good on ya!

Using a straight is a bit of a steeper learning curve than using a DE, but the concepts are pretty much the same. Stropping takes a bit of practice at first, but it's one of those skills that once you learn it it'll be easy from then on (like riding a bicycle for example!).

So what kind of razor and strop did you get?

Welcome to SRP. The transition isn't as difficult with the fundamentals of preparation and lathering already learned in DE shaving. Read this post here by SRP founder Lynn Abrams before you do your first shave and you'll soon be shaving like an old hand.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I got a philly strop from Ken at Ruprazor. The razor that I managed to screw up was a Joseph Rogers Primo. The razor is no longer primobut thankfully someone is going to make is useable again.

Glad to see you over here. Once I got hooked on straight shaving, I haven't been over on the other boards much.
You'll have the other stuff (prep) down, so you can focus on developing the technique. Enjoy, it is loads of fun, and makes getting that BBS something to be even happier about!

Welcome to SRP. If you like the DE you're gonna love the str8's. Learn all you can from the WIKI and ask questions, people here know their stuff. Be patient there is a learning curve. Again welcome and good luck.
