Good question. My ideal of perfect shave is a one pass and few strokes one, but this is not that easy to achieve so I need to choose. One pass too many stroke or two passes few strokes. I think the second is more eficient and gentle to the skin.

If you're satisfied with one pass, great. That is all that is needed. I've reduced my number of passes as too many lead to irritation.

I generally do one full pass then a bit of clean up. I only lather up a second time and do the full on ATG pass if I am doing it for me and relaxing. Otherwise it is still relaxing but I'm in and out much quicker with the one pass.

Thanked: 77OP - very impressed at your restraint at not going more passes.
Currently I do 2 (WTG-XTG and ATG-XTG) with touch ups.
Working on being more restrained with the corners of my mouth - keep trying for BBS and end up with rash (I think less is more probably - fewer and lighter passes... just working out best direction to take... but I digress )
Good point!!
(Unless your workplace requires people rubbing your face)

+1 on this from me, thats just what I do, tbh I feel like a stroke victim first thing in the morning, so theres just no way I am gonna rush a shave, a bit of quiet time in the evening, usually have a bath or shower and take my time, 1 pass wtg and 1 xtg does me, I will sometimes go for a 3rd atg but I find that I get a little sore and being new to SR shaving I struggle around the jowles.
and I sometimes have a quick top up if I get the urge in the morning, just for the fun of it

Its an interesting question. Some of my most prized epiphanies occurred in straight shaving when I realized that a single pass and near BBS were not mutually exclusive, just a matter of inexperience.

Thanked: 586I roll out with one pass with the grain twice a week. But then again I'm an old slob who couldn't give a rat's ass about the grey stubble.
