    Default Lapp advice

Hi I've just just got a shapton 16K and am looking for a cheapish lapp. A couple of people recommended a DMT 8" Coarse, any others thoughts or a link to a particular one I can buy? Thanks

I believe they prefer the term 'Sami people'. Whether they're particularly thrifty I can't say...

    gray,

i got a this from wood craft Buy Granite Surface Plate at Woodcraft.com

this plate is almost 30 pounds and have a .001 tolerance. i even got a report with it. the thing i truely like about it is that i can out and piece of sandpaper on it and the surface tentsion makes it stick. and also with this i can go from lets say 80 grit to 1500 for higher end hones. just an idea.

I do lot's of lapping. I have the entire DMT Dia Sharp Line. I like the D8XX and the D8C for lapping. Of course a cheapie way would be to get a piece of granite, marble or some type of tile and use wet/dry sandpaper.

Hey Rich, as I STILL haven't bought a lapping plate yet, which one would you recommend, D8C or the D8XX? The D8C was the most popular around here for a while, but many members seem to be switching to the D8XX.

i think xx is better for lapping, but the surface it leaves is not very smooth to the touch. not sure it has much effect on honing since i refinished on dmt-c the one hone i bought lapped on dmt-xx

rich will probably have real life experience with this and can tell us
