Thread: Cleaning the edge between passes?

When shaving my face I just rinse under the tap. When shaving my head I'll rinse under the tap and then wipe on a towel.

I don't think that residential water pressure is great enough to damage an edge during a rinse. At least not in my area.

I rinse under hot water, I doubt the impact of water from a typical faucet will damage the edge, but I do hold the razor so that the water strikes the blade in the middle and not at the edge. This is just for convenience, but it does absorb most of force on the body of the blade.

You can wipe on a towel or tissue like most barbers do, but I find this to be less convenient, and somewhat messy. IMHO, water used to rinse is not wasted, but used so I feel no guilt what so ever.

Do you hold the blade spine up, and let the water hit the spine first, letting it run down the sides of the blade? I ask because I wonder if holding the edge at a 90 degree angle to the water, while getting the lather and hair off quicker, might hurt the edge of the blade? I do it the same way as fccexpert. Nothing to do with water damaging the edge, rather i find it clears the lather & stubble off effectively. I don't think domestic water pressure would harm the edge. It strikes me that stubble would be far more damaging. I may be wrong, but i'm not going to worry about that.

I use warm/hot water. If that doesnt do it, some tissue paper. I try not to blast the water, to keep water from splashing into the scales. I love shaving with a hot razor. I am seriously paranoid about chipping the blade on the faucet, my bathroom is pretty cramped.

I rinse under hot water and give a wipe with the same face cloth I used as a hot towel for face prep -

I use a rubber straight razor cleaner/ lather wiper.

I run it under hot water, edge down, so the water strikes near the spine then runs off near the blade. It also makes it harder for me to ding the edge on the tap if I muff it up.

After the shave, I rinse it off with hot water, then give it a quick wipe with a paper towel, after which it goes into my felt-lined razor drawer for a day to air-dry, then I strop it to shave-readiness and put it back in its box or pouch, ready for next time I use it.

As I've posted before, water usage is a concern in my area.

I choose to wipe lather and stubble on the damp washcloth that I used to shower with before the shave.

No additional water used, no chance of dinging the blade on the tap.

I rinse under water and then knock the larger water drops off on a folded towel next to the sink.

Also if I am doing a third pass I will strop on the meaty part of my palm (under the pinky finger) until it is dry. This both cleans and refreshes the edge.
