Thanks hi bud gl. Coincidently, I was just watching your honing videos on YouTube this evening!! How come they aren't here? There's a lot of good information in your videos. Thanks for putting them out there. I eat up anything having to do with honing. I took the plunge recently, and came across a used norton 4k/8k. It was cheap, and I figured if I lapped it and lapped it and lapped it; it would be worth it, and I think it just might be. Took me over an hour, but she's flat now! And, I'm "this close" to getting an antiques market cheapy shave ready.

I have another beginner's luck story to tell, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow or the next day, as I am in a lot of pain tonight and need to get to bed. Or soak myself in epsom salts with some scotch or something to ease the pain.

Anyway, my first attempts at straight shaving myself have been a complete joy. And I owe that entirely to the members here who have shared their experiences and in some cases, those who were so generous in getting me started, with a straight, a strop and some good soap. I feel blessed to have found this place. There are some really awesome people here.

And reading about so many members' enthusiasm about shaving ( of all things!) really gave me the confidence to go for it; I didn't worry about cutting myself. I knew I would (and I did) , but I also knew it wouldn't be any worse than how those multi blades chewed up my face! (and it wasn't....at all)
I also knew I'd have way more control over those cuts, whereas with a multi blade, you don't always know you've chewed up your face until you're almost done your shave. And they really do cause ingrown hairs!

It's amazing how painful ingrown hairs can be, especially when you get a whole bunch of them in one spot. Well, I'm not experiencing any more pain in those areas, at all, anymore. I suddenly realized I wasn't feeling like someone was jabbing my chin and neck repeatedly with a bunch of sewing needles. It's a really refreshing change. And it's absolutely FANTASTIC, when the "hype" actually matches the reality! My shaves keep getting smoother, and my face is really clearing up. It's never been this clear. Last time, was when I grew a beard and just stopped shaving. So yeah, I am totally converted to this kind of shaving.

I can honestly say that all the good things said about shaving with a straight, isn't actually "hype", because for me so far, it's been the truth.

And I owe the informed choices I am making to all the people here who have been so generous with their time and knowledge. It's made the transition really quite smooth. And really helps minimize unnecessary newbie mistakes. Some mistakes are a given, and they help you in the end, but some can be and with the right information, should be, avoided.
For instance, had I not come here, I might have found myself in possession of a Zeepk razor. And given my budget, I might have thought it was a good idea for me to get one, when in reality, it would have been a complete waste of money (however little), and might have actually put me off shaving with a straight. Luckily, I came here.

This forum really is dominated by great people. Glad I joined. I don't normally like signing up or registering in forums, but I'm glad I did here.
