    Default Sharpening question.

I collect knives and I have a norton 2 sided india stone. Will this work fine with a straight razor?

generally speaking, knife sharpening and razors are quite a bit different. you need at least a 4000/8000k combo, less than that and you are not going to get a great shave. i would also recommend a 12k finishing stone. i have a chinese 12k waterstone, cost about $40 with s/h. read the wiki here on honing and ask about anything you might not understand. you will find the members here will be more than willing to get you up to speed.

You know, I have a two sided Norton Oil Stone I use on my knives. One side is Coarse, and the other fine. It gets my knives just about shave ready, but I have never used it on my razors. Maybe someone here has. I have no idea what grit they are, or if they are even rated that way. I doubt it. You can try refreshing the blade on the fine side. The coarse side would be a bevel setter. You can test it and see. Honestly, I'd recommend something more suitable like the Norton 4/8k that were mentioned. The Chinese 12k is very affordable, and a little slow. With that combo your razors can be shave ready....
