Blood Donor
Well, at the age of 44 I finally decided that I needed to try shaving with the dreaded Staright, AKA cut throat razor. After a week I now know why they call it the cut throat. The good news is that after a week I have only managed to nick myself once this morning. All my other nicks are healing nicely and I have to be honest and say that I am hooked. Something about shaving with a super sharp blade appeals to me. I went to a meeting the other day and one of my colleagues came up to me and right away knew I was a newbie. We had a good laugh at my expense.

Thanked: 15Welcome! Sounds like your on your way..That's great...
It's funny sometimes the progression that takes place. When you start we tend to be very, very careful sometimes too careful and tentative. Then you get more comfortable and confident. Then your smooth and confident. Then you speed up and pretty soon you get careless and bam, blood squirting...LOL.
I had to remind myself just last night to slow down a bit after I nicked myself on the jaw-line. Confidence is good, but always being careful is also a good thing.

whalersailor, You are hooked! It's not so bad. You actually look forward to shaving in the morning. I've been doing it for about a year and every night I set up my bathroom sink in expectation of the mornings shave to come. I know it's pretty bad, BUT hey, when your single, you can do whatever you want. As long as doesn't harm anyone and it doesn't go against God or country! Welcome to the brotherhood! I can't wait to hear more about your adventures with the straight razor! God Bless!

Me too, I'm 47 now and started with a str8 a few years ago. I used a brush and mug for years, it seemed logical to go to a str8. There's a learning curve. My first couple of shaves, I remember going to work and people asking me, "What did you do to your face?" When I told them I shave with a straight razor, they asked me, Really, Why?
It's funny some of the reactions you get....Welcome....We have assumed control !

It's not that bad. It is right at the chin and then again on the right side of my face. I figured out that it was the angle I used on the chin and the dreaded mid stroke pause on the cheek. But I am really impressed with the shave I have been getting and enjoy taking the extra time in the morning to shower, lather and shave. I actually kind of look forward to doing it becasue I see it as a challenge. Thanks for all the support, this forum has been a great help.

Welcome! I was 55 when I started. Wish I had the taut skin of a youngster but I guess along with the loose skin comes wisdom!?
I really like the money I save on not having to buy new disposables and since I have learned how to hone I don't have to depend on someone else. It's always fun learning a new skill.
