    Default making/building lather

I've got making it before my shower and using a "redneck scuttle" to warm the lather with down pat. Its the actual making of the lather that I am having issues with. I have read in the WIKI and watched videos from Lynn and others on this topic. What I made this morning was about the consistency of soup - clearly I used too much water. I didnt know this until I began to touch up shave with it (I usually do main shave the nite before). So Im using a soap to make lather from - should I simply warm up the brush and get some of the soap on the brush and begin making lather or should I get "an almond size amount of soap" somehow and begin working that up to a lather. I suppose I would need to simply use a spoon or something if I am to scoop the amount out of the soap unit. I know these are newbie questions - that is why I am posting this in the Newbies Corner -

you folks on here really are great - a great attitude about all of this - and very very very helpfull - thanks to you all - I appreciate your assistance in this one.

You rub the wetted brush on the soap to pick up soap. Then make the lather in bowl, on face or on palm. I think the almond size dollop refers to creams.

you also have to experiment a little with how much water you need, add a little at a time.
Bear in mind that different soaps/creams require different amounts of water.

Welcome to SRP from another newb!

I was having the same issue and if I used less water it would start to dry on my face. I resolved the issue by adding glycerin to the bowl. You will need to experiment some with the correct amount, but it will help.

    Good luck and enjoy!

What I've come to do over time is put hot tap water on top of the puck. It softens it some while I'm in the shower. I load the wet brush on the puck swirling until it creates a lather and then go to the bowl and swirl some more. I have the tap trickling hot water and add a little as I go. If I want a creamier lather I will add the almond sized dollop of cream to the bowl before I start the soap. I found this method much more effective than face lathering. YMMV.

+1'n With Jimmy. I do the same with Soap. Your almond size dollop refers to Shave Creams as previously stated. Once the soap is "warmed Up" and your brush is damp. I normally dip mine in hot water, give it two good shakes, that leaves enough water to do the job for me and my brush, a Rooney S.Silv Tip Badge...You will need to experiment a bit to get it right. Everything is like this with str8 shaving. it's a lot of trial and error, but so worth it once you get it down. Anyway, I swirl my brush Around the puck, maybe 30 times or so to build a great lather...I then transfer it to a scuttle, swirl, repeat process.. If you check the wiki under "uber lather" it talks about adding some unscented shave cream and glycerin to the bowl to make loads of lather...Good Luck
