Thanked: 2591Honed and in my case(not sure if they have this as standard feature or not) with a free 1 time honing coupon.

Yes, I'm pretty sure they are honed by Lynn. I got my first from SRD, they all come shave ready.

The half dozen or so I've gotten from SRD have all been superb shavers.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

+1 with Jimmy. Everyone I've gotten from them has been shave ready.
Good point by Robin, My definition of Shave Ready is, I can take it out of the box and shave with it comfortably, without pulling or tugging or causing me any irritation. A nice smooth shave....Last edited by zib; 11-08-2009 at 04:57 PM.

I've not experienced one, & even then, one would not be enough to truly know.
As Robin suggests, everyone has their own definition of shave ready, & preferences.
I would have to imagine that Lynn really know's what he's doing. That said, he must hone a fair few each day, & every now & then he's bound to let one slip by that's not quite there, surely? Despite his God status here, I understand that he's only human!

To address the original question, I think that you can safely assume that the SRD razors will consistently pass a knowledgable straight razor shavers definition of shave ready. Could a "clunker" slip out? I guess anything can and will happen, but I also know that Don and Lynn are extremely diligent about QC and testing. I wouldn't worry about getting one that isn't ready to go and expertly honed.
While everyone may their own definition of what constitutes "shave ready" they are not all equally valid. Some guys seem to think that shave ready means that the razor doesn't require any skill from the user....that is incorrect. I think this leads to more "my new razor isn't shave ready" posts than anything else. The razor is just a tool, and even if it is perfectly prepared it won't compensate for operator error.
That points to a couple of the key reasons that a new guy should get a shave ready razor that has been expertly honed...it provides a baseline for future evaluation and eliminates one variable from the process of learning to use a straight.
Edit: Matt, I don't mean to imply that you are either a "new guy" or would unfairly judge a razors "shave readiness". Sorry if it came across that way.Last edited by Bill S; 11-08-2009 at 05:40 PM.
