its a Solingen and don't know if its shave ready I also have a strop for it has canvas on one side and leather on the other

it was purchased at advanced cutlery dont know how long it was sitting in case

If you don't know, I am guessing you didn't purchase it from a vendor who took care to explain/let you know that it was. Originally Posted by bigfnk
I'd be willing to bet it needs a good honing. IMHO, your best bet is to get it honed by opne of the well trusted members here. Even if you know how to sharpen other instruments (like knives) a well honed razor is a different thing alltogether, and to know what "shave ready" feels like is crucial to learning to do it yourself.
