Be aware that Barbicide will remove all plating from the razor.

Welcome to SRP. Been there and done that. I don't recommend soaking. I am a professional tattooer and used to use a Weck replaceable blade straight razor to shave the tattoo area before tattooing my customers.
The barbacide will form solid crystals on the razor and unless you add a rust prevenative over time it will rust it. OTOH, IIRC there is a caveat in the instructions on the jug to change it every 24 or maybe it is 48 hours. It's been a long time since I used it but for shaving only you sterilization is not something I would be concerned with.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

If your reasoning is just to use the jar, why not fill it with some liquid in a color you like, then place it somewhere in your bathroom as decoration, but don't use it.
I see all kinds of things in bathrooms that look cool, but serve no purpose whatsoever. Lots of shaving brushes next to an electric razor. I think you get the idea. I even have a very dull SR I may leave on the sink for decoration. The one I shave with will remain out of sight. Too tempting. I'd hate to try shaving with it after a visitor dropped it -- open! I also don't want to pay for the lawsuit if a sharp one lands on their foot, or worse.

Thanked: 0I'm in with Ziggy, maybe fill it up or simply have it as a reminder of the man who introduced you to the wonder of straight razors

I work with barbercide everyday. Take my word for it and DO NOT soak your razors or any other steel tool you like in that stuff. If you want to use that old jar go buy some cutting and barber combs and then use the jar. That's what the jar is for - Combs. Have fun

Thanked: 199yeah, i don't think i'd soak it. If you use combs, use it for them, but not the razors
*EDIT* I read (i think on the barbicide site) that after 10 mins in it, the item is ready to be removed. You could probably try a razor for that amount of time, but I would be sure to rinse it off well after.Last edited by avatar1999; 11-13-2009 at 03:21 AM.

First it depends on the razor, and the steel, but most likely it will turn it black.... It can also turn some of the older scales some funny colors....
SS razors are not like SS scissors the make up of the steel is different some of the steel bangers could tell you why...
One thing that I do know is when it comes to razors, that is actually two words "Stain" "Less" not one word "Stainless" they will rust and will turn black....
The best way to find out though is try it ... You might get lucky

Thanked: 20I soak most of my used razors ONCE in a Barbicide solution for about 10 minutes tops, then dry them. After that, you don't really need to sterilize them. Don't leave them in for extended periods of time... they gonna rust and/or stain.
