welcome to srp
you need to strop before every shave. start with 30 laps on the fabric followed by 50 on the leather. in about 2 months experiment with less and more and see what works best for you.

Thanked: 1903That's a nice set. I would upgrade the strop to a 3" one.
With regards to stropping, the answer is in the Frequently Asked Questions - Straight Razor Place Wiki : "Because of the variables in this question, there is no definite answer. There appears to be some consensus that 30 to 60 passes on a leather strop will yield optimum results."

Welcome to SRP. Nice choice for a set. Read the beginner's guide found in the link in the above post by BeBerlin for great info to get started.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Welcom to the gang and nice to see your thinking of upgrading to the full straight edge I am sure you wont turn back. And in the long term it will save you some money as no more cartrdiges to buy.

Thanks guys, yea I read the guide...just wanted to see personal recommendations, thanks for the responses, as far as upgrading the strop, it's basically a larger contact surface correct? any other feedback, tips, or advice, and recommendations are welcome.

Yes it is a 3" width rather than the 2". Knowing what I know now I would upgrade to the 3" Premium 1 strop. That is what I have and use on a regular basis .... among many others.. it has become my main strop. I prefer the feel of the razor on that particular leather to the latigo. That is a personal preference and some guys might be the opposite. You won't know until you try one or another.

I agree with Robin. I too would upgrade to the 3 inch strop. You've made a good purchase. I've done quite a bit of business with SRD and have never been disappointed.
As the other's have said, Stropping is requiered prior to each shave. We have assumed control !
