JT,
I am glad that a bunch of the goodies landed on your doorstep today. I would tell you to enjoy them, but it sounds like I am a little late for that.
You have received some great advice on keeping the lather on your face wet, and I guess I will throw my 2 cents in on the subject too. I sometimes shave so slowly that by the time I get to another area of the face/neck to be shaved, the lather is a bit dry. I just do a rapid dip of just the tip of the brush in water, swirl the brush around the dried lather on my face until it is overly wet. Then I have a good wet base of lather/soap on my face and I then apply another coat of the thick lather I started with. If the lather in the bowl is too thick, then do as others have recommended and add water to the lather in the bowl A FEW DROPS AT A TIME and work it with the brush until the lather in the bowl is thick and wet. You can always add water, but no one (that I know of) has figured a way to take too much water back out.
Enjoy and we wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy holiday. Sometimes we (I) tend to forget that the Holidays are about the Spirit and not the Material. Between the two, it is no contest for me as to which one is the most precious.
Happy Holidays!
James and Pauline

Please don't expect perfect results too soon. Seriously, it can take up to several months to get your technique properly refined and your facial skin conditioned. I well remember my first shaves with a straight -- it looked as if I had tried to shave with a lawnmower!
Good luck!

Yeah, I remember looking like that too. But I started with a cheap shavette, not a nice, antique razor like what you've been give.
Not that I would ever wish unemployment on anyone, especially around this time of year, but I am envious of the support you have received around here. Not that I haven't been helped in ways I did not expect, mind you, but I would not mind, at all, receiving the amount of great stuff the guys here have sent you.
Zombie, I have the pleasure, if I can make the time, to shave every other day without that irritation, I guess some of us are just lucky enough to have faster hair growth than others. I knew a guy once that used a Braun, and he , I kid you not, had to shave 3 times a day! Wish I had that problem.

SOTF #2
Well men, day #2 with the straight. This shave was better than the last, and still no nicks! Got the lather thicker and more creamy this time, which I was proud of. I did less water and actually counted the seconds of actually making the later, worked much better.
Tried stropping prior to shaving, don't really know how to tell if I did a good job?? The razor shaved well, I mean it took off hair and I got some clean spots with it so I think it is sharp. It definitely took off arm hair.
Anyway, finished the shave with my DE that Ducatti sent, that was fun. I would say it was a better shave than a cartridge, and a whole lot less irritation (though I have some as i did relather like 4 times .
Anyway, thanks for all the support, keep tossing out suggestions if you got um, so far they are helpful!!

Thanked: 530Sounds good! Keep working at it, I had the luck of shaving with straight blades before I started using a Straight (I am able to sharpen a knife until it pops hairs, and when my family went camping, I would use a knife to shave, rather than packign a razor... then when I go to campus, I kept doing it becasue it is apparently "damn impressive"... But when you stick with it, the Straight, that is, your results will improve rapidly, and the BBS will come with time... Lemme know when that strop gets in, because I'm thinking it got out before the holiday bustle.
Cheers and good luck!

Without Further adue
All,
per nun2sharp's recommendation, I am posting pictures of all that was sent to me. I believe a good description would be that you have overly blessed me, and my wife got some very fun gifts (some are currently being used so not in the pictures). I think I got all in the pictures that was sent, if I forgot something it was not intentional. It was truly an amazing experience. The black razor is a razor to practice honing on per Jeffus. Homemade soaps are from 59caddy. Just realized I forgot to put in the DE that Ducatti sent as well. I am paying it forward as I can to those whom I am able to help.
Thank you again,
JT, Amy, & Naomi Fletcher
