Thanked: 0Basically I will need 2 Shaving mugs if I use a soap ?
If I use a soap will I have to have 2 shaving mugs? All the video's I see on youtube are of someone using the shave brush to first load the brush with a good amount of soap. Then use something else to produce the lather.
The only way I see I could get away with only one shaving mug is by using a shaving cream.
So I would have to buy a mug and a bowl when using soap?

Thanked: 143You need a container to hold the soap. Most soaps are sold in an appropriate container. They are also sold as refills for when the first batch runs out. Some people only buy the refills and put them in some ad-hoc dish they find around the house or pick up for next to nothing at places like Target or Walmart. So that's one mug you don't need.
About half of us simply work up a lather right on our face and don't bother with the second "mug". In any case, that second "mug", if you choose to use one, should really be a bowl that gives more room for whisking the brush around in.

That's a good question, and you got a good answer. A lot of guys, including myself transfer the soap from it's container to a scuttle or bowl, etc...I.E., start whipping lather in the container, then transfer what's on your brush to your bowl/scuttle continue whipping it up...also, check our wiki here for more info. You'll also find a recipe for "Uber Lather"
Depnding on the soap, you may need to make several passes at it. Check out Mantic's shave videos on you tube, they're informative, well made and entertaining. We have assumed control !

Thanked: 4I use the original tub of Bulgarian Rose soap (from Straight Razor Designs). Soak my brush in hot water while I shower, after shower, with face still wet, put a little hot water on top of soap in tub, shake most water out of brush, vigorously brush top of soap with little pressure, add about a teaspoon of hot water to soap on brush & put brush to face and beard to build hot lather.
I do need a soap dish to use some other soap pucks, but not a separate one to build lather. Some shavers do & then there is the scuttle.
Just a thought...
A bar of Lava Soap scrubbed over the beard area? Would remove a couple of layers of skin to expose more of the whisker
